Green Bank School Opening

From Press staff reports

Green Bank Elementary School students will enter the doors to a new school today. The $4.8 million K-8 school in Washington Township was completed within the proposed schedule and budget. “I just can’t believe this is finally finished and it is opening, “ Diana Ackerman, Washington Township School Board President, said Monday. “We really have to give thanks to the parents, students, teachers and administration for their patience and help.”

The project began in October 2005. The school for the nearly 70 children has nine classrooms, two special education rooms and office space for the nurse, the superintendent and the office secretary. There is also an art/music room and a cafeteria and gymnasium room. The school is alongside the original circa 1919 building, which will be used by the township. A brick building built in 1969 was razed to make way for the new school. “It is amazing how the architect and the builder mirrored the 1919 building,” Ackerman said.
