Newly Adopted Building Codes

This Monday, 17 August 2026, the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA) adopted the latest (2024) editions of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Mechanical Code, National Plumbing Code, and International Energy Code.  The DCA also simultaneously adopted the latest (2023) edition of the National Electrical Code.

In their process of adopting these model codes, DCA reviewed and modified their requirements with specific amendments and exemptions.  DCA provides a six-month grace period, with the new 2024 Codes becoming fully mandatory across the state on 17 February 2027.

Proper application of current building codes help protect the health, safety, and welfare of the occupants of our buildings.  RYEBREAD will be studying these updated codes, along the New Jersey-specific changes, and include these changed requirements into our Construction Documents that will be permitted February and later.  A full understanding of these requirements facilitates the permitting process for our Contractors, and our Clients
